Research aim
The research is to identify the effects of the Maum Meditation program on elementary school children’s self-esteem and their adaptabilities to their school environment.
Research participants and research duration
50 elementary school children in their third year
Between March 2012 to July 2012(twice per week, thirty minutes per session, 15 weeks in total).
Research procedure
At an elementary school located in K city of South Korea, 25 students who were in their 3rd year who wished to participate the experiment and whose parents also consented to their children’s participation attended the Maum Meditation session instructed by their teacher, who was a qualified Maum Meditation instructor. Another class of 25 students in their 3rd year who did not attend the Maum Meditation session was selected as the control group.
Results
The result demonstrated an increased level of self-esteem and an increased level of adaptability to the school environment amongst the students who attended the Maum Meditation sessions. It also showed that a higher level of self-esteem resulted in a higher level of adaptability to the school environment.
